Atrium Patio Doors announces switch to powder coat technology
July 6, 2009
New process offers more eco-friendly finishing options to a unique selection of quality patio & entry doors
Greenville, Texas – The eight or nine ‘vanilla’ exterior colors used among door and window suppliers for many years are still a staple. But as consumers become more eco-conscious and continue to demand value options at excellent prices, exterior color selection becomes more relevant.
Atrium has switched from a wet coat paint to a powder coat finish on all of their extruded aluminum products. Effective immediately, consumers will be able to choose from a selection of 50+ color options.
The push of replacement windows and doors; the popularity of ‘green’ living and eco-friendliness; and the emphasis on outdoor living make the powder coat option a natural fit for new and replacement openings.
This process offers an eco-friendly finishing selection for consumers. Explains Greg Traurig, Atrium Patio Doors’ National Accounts Manager, “The wet paint process used on steel doors uses solvents, binders and fillers and is not as eco-friendly as the powder coat process. By switching all products to a 2603 AAMA compliant paint coat, the results provide better durability and are more eco-friendly than the wet paint process commonly used on products today.”
The extruded aluminum that comprises Atrium’s products, versus the roll form found on many other similar products, gives them an enhanced dynamic especially when powder coating is used. The depth and finish are superior to any painted or spray painted application today.
All of Atrium Patio Doors clad colors are standard in four AAMA compliant categories:
Standard Clad Colors with AAMA 2603 finish
Feature Clad Colors with AAMA 2604 or optional AAMA 2605 finish
Extended Feature Clad Colors comprising of bold commercial colors in AAMA 2604 finish
Unique to Atrium and the market are the Simulated Woodgrain Clad Powder Coat options, also in 2604 or 2605 AAMA compliant finish. These extraordinary finishes provide the look and feel of a woodgrain finish, without the maintenance variables of steel or fiberglass
Additional benefits of the powder coat finish include:
ZERO VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds)
Superior color and gloss retention
Supports Green Building initiatives
Contributes toward LEED points
Increased surface integrity of the coated product
Custom colors
